Feeling this joint sana.

Good to see Cecile still making music 🎶 after all these decades.

The dance moves...these gels, these gels, these gels, I tells ya.

Have a fantastic weekend ahead, friends!

Sukuma of Tanzania among the top 20 out of 36000 African tribes, or the hundreds I have sampled so far. Been blasting Sukuma hits this week while working and was surprised. I think Luo leads among Kenyan tribes, Sukuma rules TZ. They are behind in choreography and techs but music is African-congo-beat awesome. Slow half the song then high kick sebene at the right moment!

The future belongs to those who have a quarter of the character and integrity of RV Heavy Hitter!

The rhythm and tempo of their songs is infectious!
And we thought the Congolese ladies were tops at gyrating the hindquarters.
These gels, these gels, these gels I tells ya,
How do they manage to shake their money makers like that?

Junior M.A.F.I.A - I need you tonight

Those first couple of summers in the US of A, fresh off the boat, were something else.
Meeting akataas for the first time. Having to interact with them from a safe
distance once you got to know them up close for who they really are :roll:
Great music though. Very talented.
This song reminds me very much of the Flawda Gulf Coast.
Sweltering summers. The vast blue ocean. Aroma of BBQ and school being out for two months until the fall sem!

Who remembers :D?

Dallas Memorial Weekend,  hosted by the KENDA ladies.
Funny how being fresh off the boat, you would land at these parties and be very impressed by the SUVs, the drop tops, the flossing and so on.
To an impressionable young person in their late teens or early twennies, these folks were balling big time.
Little did we know that 90% of them were illegals working double shifts.
But the bashes were fun!

Reprise;

Will Smith - Miami

"South Beach, bringin' the heat"

"Miami..my second home..."

I miss having my seafood dinners on Ocean Drive, SoBe, with its al-fresco restaurants galore. Perfect places to slow your life down and people watch in the summer ritru bit, ritru bit.

Heaven's Girl - Ron Isley, Charlie Wilson, R. Kelly, Aaron Hall, Naomi Campbell (1995)

For all you fellow Jazz enthusiasts

This album was a classic. This was the year I was introduced to Jazz. Jazz, like beer is an acquired tasted. Once you acquire it, leaving it is difficult

Brings back bittersweet memories. Dark days and also amazing times during the first few years in Uncle Sam's land
Hog-head souse sandwiches and Beck's beer (when I was still a drinker). Who was that who said gas-station sandwiches are the best and most delicious sandwiches on the planet when your down and out and struggling :roll:

How Quincy Jones managed to congregate all those singers on one album was unusual

My other two faves from the album;

and this one especially;

Time is running out on all of us, buddies.
Look how many artists and other celebs on this album are dead...yet 1995 seems like just yesterday!

Quincy Jones himself!
Ray Charles
Barry White
Heavy D
Coolio
James Moody
Nick Ashford (Of Ashford & Simpson, featured on "Stuff Like That")
Nancy Wilson
Marlon Brando (Spoken word audio appearance)
Miles Davis
Dizzy Gillespie
Charlie Parker

Kreuz - House Party

The party life is interesting. Everything seems so amazing and important when you're enjoying it, but as you age and experience life in all its fullness, you realize it was all a bag of smoke and you perhaps spent too much time on it when you could have spent more time experiencing the whole gamut of the incredible human experience outside of it. An example..in colle, there was this club we used to go to..polite crowd of all races that used to play everything. Ragga, Reggae, Rock, R&B, Hip Hop, the works. I think it was so diverse because it was a college town that brought not only just people from all over the country there to study but also from around the world, like us Africans and Jamyeeakans!

So one of the things that was popular at the club was dance-off sessions. I remember it like it were yesterday. This one Jamyeeakan guy used to dazzle folks with his fast footed moves while everyone formed a circle around the dance floor and cheered away. The jungus were the most interesting to watch. Uncoordinated moves to rock and grunge that left us cracking up. Weekend after weekend. partying till dawn. it all seemed so important and fun at the time.

Looking back, it was all vapour.

Almost everyone in those clubs left town after graduation as there were little to no career opportunities therein, so almost all of us never saw each other ever again.
